Force Engineering has recently established itself as a world leader in accelerated launch systems by supplying a number of highly innovative drives to the roller coaster industry.

A conventional roller coaster train is hauled slowly to the top of a hill by a chain lift so the train gains potential energy. Once over the brow of the hill the vehicle accelerates downhill under gravity, gaining speed and converting potential energy to kinetic.

This concept is well understood but the maximum velocity that can be reached is a function of the height of the hill. New coaster designers are always striving for higher speed and 100 mph is everyone's aim. This is unlikely with a gravity coaster since a hill height of 102m (335ft) would be required.

LIMs can provide additional energy into a ride at any point on the track, allowing greater design flexibility and improved ride experience.
