ProSlide HydroMAGNETIC Rocket
ProSlide Technology Inc. are widely acclaimed for their innovative and excellent water rides. They approached Force in 2005 about the possibility of replacing standard conveying belt drives with Linear Induction Motors on the uphill sections of their Rocket rides to make a more thrilling ride.
Using our knowledge and experience gained from launch systems on roller coasters, we designed both a specific LIM and a bespoke control system. We constructed a small test track on-site and were able to optimize the components before ProSlide began manufacturing; for example the LIMs are wider than standard to allow for the varying positions that the raft can take on the track.
Each 4-person raft features a reaction plate embedded in its base with the LIMs are mounted underneath the track in special troughs. Rafts are initially accelerated down slopes by gravity but they are then pushed uphill by the LIMs. A comprehensive speed sensor and motor control system measures and controls the speed of the boat as it climbs the hill providing a seamless ride experience.
The design, known as a HydroMAGNETIC ROCKET™, now has 10 working installations globally with more being installed at the end of 2009 and early in 2010. Each installation varies from location to location but the thrill of riding is the same.
The design won First place in the Best New Waterpark Ride category at the 2007 IAAPA Expo.
