Heathrow

Forcepack Linear Induction Motors power the baggage handling system between terminals 1 and 4, and inside terminal 5 at Heathrow airport (UK).

The Heathrow motors propel Telecars which carry a bag every 1.5 seconds in each direction. Transportation time, formerly by road, has been slashed from an hour to just 18 minutes.

Baggage now traverses the tunnel — 20 metres below the runway — at 30kph (19mph), six times faster than a conventional conveyor. Approximately 30% of Heathrow's 50 million annual passengers are transfers and LIM delivered bags will mean a reduction in the amount of luggage missing their flights.
